Chimaerus, the Undreamt God – Overview

Chimaerus is the sole boss of the Dreamrift, a single-boss encounter that revolves around tight add control across two distinct realms. The fight is primarily single-target with waves of priority adds that must be dealt with swiftly. Before engaging, ensure your team has heroes equipped with grip, slow, and knockback abilities to manage add positioning effectively.

The core challenge of Chimaerus is preventing adds from reaching the boss. If Chimaerus consumes any add, it gains a massive stacking damage buff, heals for roughly double the remaining HP of the consumed add, and unleashes heavy raid-wide damage. Your entire strategy should center on keeping adds away from the boss at all costs.

On Heroic difficulty, split your roster into two balanced groups before pulling. Pull Chimaerus to the edge of the platform to maximize the distance adds must travel, giving your team more time to eliminate them. Use your strongest burst-damage hero on the pull for maximum efficiency.

Phase 1 – The Aln and Add Management

Throughout Phase 1, Chimaerus periodically spawns adds in a shadow realm called The Aln. These adds are protected by blue shields known as Alnshroud, making them invulnerable until the shields are broken. To enter The Aln, players must soak the Alndust Upheaval ability, which targets the current tank. Group 1 should stack on the tank to split the damage and get transported into The Aln for approximately 40 seconds. The Alnsight debuff applied during this process prevents the same players from safely soaking consecutive Upheavals, so your two groups must alternate.

While inside The Aln, the designated tank hero should gather all adds away from the boss's position to buy extra distance. Every player in the shadow realm needs to focus on breaking add shields as quickly as possible. Once a shield is destroyed, that add teleports back to the normal realm and begins slowly fixating toward Chimaerus. The upstairs group must then burst it down before it reaches the boss. If your downstairs group finishes shields too quickly, consider keeping a few players permanently in the upstairs group to handle the incoming adds more smoothly.

When add shields break, yellow pools are left on the ground that must be avoided. These pools can be cleared using the Consuming Miasma debuff, which periodically targets random players. Affected players should activate a defensive ability, position themselves over the yellow pools, and then call for a dispel. The dispel removes all pools within the blue circle radius, keeping the arena manageable.

Add Priority and Interrupt Strategy

Three types of adds appear during the encounter, each requiring different handling. Colossal Horrors are the highest priority — they must be tanked and killed first because they cast Roar, which deals increasingly heavy damage with each successive cast. Leaving a Colossal Horror alive too long will quickly overwhelm your healing capabilities.

Haunting Essences are dangerous casters that fire Essence Bolts and channel Fearsome Cry. Assign dedicated interrupters to shut down Fearsome Cry immediately, as a completed cast will fear your entire team, potentially allowing other adds to reach Chimaerus unchecked. Swarming Shades are lower-priority filler adds with no special abilities, but they still fixate on the boss and must be destroyed before being consumed. Prioritize Colossal Horrors first, then Haunting Essences, and clean up Swarming Shades with cleave damage.

Recommended Heroes and Team Composition

For the Chimaerus encounter, prioritize heroes with strong burst damage to quickly eliminate adds once they enter the normal realm. Heroes with crowd-control abilities such as slows, knockbacks, and grips are essential for buying time when multiple adds are fixating on the boss simultaneously. Having at least two heroes with reliable interrupt capabilities ensures Fearsome Cry never goes through.

Your tank heroes need to be durable enough to handle Rending Tear, a frontal cone attack that Chimaerus uses throughout the fight. Tank swaps should occur each time a group gets sent into The Aln. For healing, bring heroes that excel at dealing with healing absorb debuffs and sustained raid-wide damage, as both mechanics are present throughout the encounter.

Key Tips for a Clean Victory

Positioning is everything in this fight. Keep Chimaerus at the far edge of the platform so fixating adds have maximum distance to travel. The downstairs tank should pull adds away from the boss's location within The Aln to create even more space when they teleport upstairs. Never let your guard down on add control — a single consumed add can snowball into a wipe.

Communication between your upstairs and downstairs groups is critical. The downstairs team should call out when shields are about to break so the upstairs team is ready to pick up and burst the incoming adds. Save your strongest cooldowns and crowd-control abilities for moments when multiple adds emerge simultaneously. With disciplined add management and proper group rotation, Chimaerus becomes a methodical and rewarding encounter to master.
